'Goa ayurveda doctors must serve in government sector'

Panaji, Mar 8 (IANS): The Goa government will soon make it mandatory for ayurveda doctors to serve in the government sector for two years in a bid to make the Indian system of medicine popular, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Thursday.
Parrikar was speaking at an annual meeting of ayurveda specialists at Shiroda, 30 km from here, where he also called for increased research in the Indian medicine system.
"We are thinking of compulsorily enlisting young ayurveda doctors to serve for two years in the government sector," Parrikar said.
Expressing concern about the increasing prevalence of diabetes in the state, Parrikar said that over three lakh people out of Goa's over 14 lakh population suffered from the disease and sought more research in ayurveda to treat the disease.
