Kerala launches e-book on ayurveda

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Tourism has launched two e-books on Ayurveda, factoring in the growing interest in ancient Indian wellness system from foreign as well as domestic visitors to the state.

Billed as the first ever attempt at electronic publication of its kind by a tourism board in the country, the venture forms part of the state's endeavour to digitise a host of unique aspects of the state, including its socio-cultural and its centuries old contributions to health living.

Releasing the book here last evening, tourism minister A P Anil Kumar noted that Kerala had been a pioneer in using digital tools for promoting the destination.

A 15-minute film on Kerala's Western Ghats, besides two brochures on the excavation site of the ancient port of Muziris near Kochi and key festivals and events of the state in 2013 were also released on the occasion.

The e-books formed the coffee table set on Panchakarma: Ayurveda's Mantra of Rejuvenation, explaining its holistic approach combining five therapeutic actions to detoxify and revitalise the body.

Other e-books launched were Kerala: A Poem in Green and Gold, a storehouse of information on Kerala by former Chief Secretary and lyricist K Jayakumar and YogaSutra, The Art and Science of Living.

Published by IT solutions provider Invis Multimedia, the four e-books will be available at online stores for purchase, and for reading on mobile phones or computer screens.

"These are aimed at people around the world, to help them learn about the age-old system of medicine so that they can come to Kerala and experience its health benefits," Anil Kumar said.

Titled The Call of the Wild, the 15-minute film on Kerala's Western Ghats cover seven major locations and the Northern and Southern bordering points of the Ghats-Eravikulam National Park, Silent Valley National Park, Mathikettan Shola, Pampadum Shola National Park, Anamudi Shola National Park, Myristica swamps and the Palakkad pass.
