Doctors will be appointed to govt hospitals soon: U T Khader

Mangaluru: Steps will be taken to appoint doctors including Ayush specialists in government hospitals, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader. He was speaking after inaugurating 'Doctors Day' organised by Ayush Foundation - Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, at paediatrics department of district Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday.

The minister said the recruitment process will start once the financial approval was obtained. The appointments will be done through KPSC. He further said that the proposal for 50-bedded Ayush hospital at the Wenlock hospital premises will be tabled before the Cabinet meeting. From this year, government will confer Ayush awards on senior Ayush practitioners, he said.

Stating that the Ayush was a great contribution to the mankind, which has passed down through many generations, the minister said that the Ayush treatment should be integrated with Allopathy and other branches of medicine for the benefit of patients at large. Even though foreigners have been following Ayush, we ourselves are lagging behind in tapping the benefits of the Ayush, he said and called upon the Ayush practitioners to instil confidence among patients that the Ayush could be the first option and not the last one. He felt it was essential for the doctors to have emotional and spiritual quotient.

Both Central and the State governments have chalked out various programmes under the Ayush dept. National Ayush Mission has also been functional in this regard, he said. A memorandum was submitted to the minister by the Foundation, to provide Ayush treatment facility at Primary health centres, to recruit Ayush doctors and to provide more grants to the department.

Senior Ayush doctors Dr Kushala Shetty, Dr N P Anchan, Dr Raviraj Shetty, Dr Sripathi Kinnikambla, Dr Rajgopal Sharma, Dr Jayaprakash Bhat, Dr Ramaiah Bhat and Dr Panicker were felicitated.

District Surgeon Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R, DHO Ramakrishna Rao, District Ayush officer Dr Devdas Putran and Ayush Foundation Chairperson Dr Ashajyothi Rai were present.
