The
NIH funded study conducted at the Ayurvedic Trust, Coimbatore comparing
classical Ayurvedic treatment in rheumatoid arthritis with methotrexate
has been selected in the category of Clinical Research for "Excellence
in Integrative Medicine Research Awards". It has been adjudged as the
best research paper worldwide in Integrative Medicine Research in the
last two years. Earlier, Dr. Edzard Ernst, the most vehement critic of
Complementary and Alternative Medicine had recommended this study as the
blue print for future studies on CAM. It is a rare instance of an
Ayurvedic study getting recognition in the field of Integrative Medicine
globally.
The European Society for Integrative Medicine
(ESIM), with support from Heel, announced this new international research
prize in integrative medicine.The
jury, which was made up of a selection of international experts in
integrative medicine, rated the papers according to three criteria:
innovation, level of relevance and scientific excellence.
The
winners of the "Excellence in Integrative Medicine Research Awards"
will be officially announced at the 5th annual European Conference on Integrative
Medicine (ECIM) to be held in Florence, Italy from September 21 to 22.
The award winning research paper is

controlled, pilot study comparing classic ayurvedic medicine,
methotrexate, and their combination in rheumatoid arthritis.
